"Each city has its own pace, as I discovered when I moved to New York four years ago from Caracas, Venezuela.
I was 26, and although I had visited the city, to live here permanently was a different experience altogether. I was also beginning a new chapter in my life as a photographer.
I was amazed by the quickness of the citiy's rhythm. People walk fast, and there seems to be no time for simple things.
But seemingly in no time I also started moving at a faster speed. And something else happened. As I crossed the street, for example, I found myself thinking about all the things I had to do during the day. When I was shopping for food, I visualised the new pictures I wanted to create.
As a result, somet things got lost, like being in the park and really enjoying the experience, or having a cup of coffee because of its delicious taste and not because I needed to stay awake and alert so as to keep pace with the city."
